Champagne Emmanuel Cosnard

Emmanuel Cosnard, winegrower and vice-president of the local cooperative, promotes Chardonnay and the unique terroir of Mont de Berru, thanks in particular to his commitment to organic farming.

Until 2001, Emmanuel Cosnard worked as a computer graphics designer, before giving up this first career and, as a self-taught man, donning the suit of a winegrower on the family vines once farmed by his great-grandparents and then his grandparents. His territory? Mont de Berru, one of Champagne's coolest and most northerly terroirs, where he grows 2.30 hectares of organic Chardonnay. Thanks to a very rigorous approach to his plots, he obtains remarkable grape material, which he entrusts to the Berru cooperative: "It's a cooperative on a human scale, attentive to its members, with a very good cellar master", he says. It's the latter who vinifies Emmanuel Cosnard's grapes, who, at the end of the transformation process, recovers bottles of Champagne that he sells under his own name. Baptised Finesse, his cuvée, quite straightforward and taut, is in this sense in the tradition of Berru champagnes. Emmanuel tells us a little more about this blanc de blancs champagne from the 2019 harvest: "it's a fresh, airy wine, a champagne for pleasure, perfect as an aperitif or to accompany smoked salmon, scallops or sushi".
