Philippe Etchebest "piqued by the desire to be somewhere else" heads for the sun

M6 will soon be broadcasting a documentary featuring Philippe Etchebest in an unusual context. What exactly is it about?

Television viewers will soon be discovering another side of Philippe Etchebest. The Meilleur Ouvrier de France, known for his role as a juror on Top Chef and his admonitions on Cauchemar en Cuisine, will soon star in a documentary to be broadcast on November 9 at 10.55pm on M6. Far from his usual kitchens, the chef will experience a complete change of scenery on the other side of the world...

Philippe Etchebest's new show

Philippe Etchebest is at the center of a new documentary series, Un Chef au Bout du Monde. After exploring (and restoring) the kitchens of numerous restaurants across France, the chef flies off to faraway lands to discover new flavors, new products and, above all, little-known cultures.

For his first adventure, Philippe Etchebest explores the Marquesas Islands, one of the world's most isolated archipelagos in the South Pacific. Home to just 9,000 inhabitants, these islands offer a spectacular landscape, between oceans and volcanic peaks, but also a culinary wealth unsuspected over 14,000 kilometers from mainland France.

"As someone who has traveled the roads of France for 30 years, I was bitten by the urge to discover new places," admits Philippe Etchebest, who didn't hesitate long after producer Alexandre Soullier suggested the idea. "For a first film, we needed a place with a change of scenery and a surprising wealth of gastronomic delights," he adds in a statement released by M6. And that's exactly what happened in the Marquesas Islands, where Philippe Etchebest met Patrick and Moité, two fishermen, as well as Marvin, who taught him about horses and sheep, and Anette and Pono, who introduced the chef to uru, the essential fruit of the Marquesan diet. "This trip was timeless, a real moment of tranquility far from modernity and bustle", admits the chef. The next adventure for Philippe Etchebest is already scheduled, as he takes viewers on a tour of Louisiana.

Rhubarb emerges from the shadows

The queen of rustic pies and crumbles, rhubarb is best enjoyed as a fruit, whereas it is a vegetable. This original plant leaves behind its old-fashioned trappings to spice up the most creative dishes and awaken both sweet and savory palates. One of the first spring vegetables, but the most recent to hit our plates, it's making a name for itself time and time again.
