There Ault, on the cliff

There Ault, on the cliff

Sleeping at the end of the world, with only the sound of the waves and wind and the horizon as your only viewpoint. Le Cise à Ault offers all this without ostentation between Le Tréport and the Baie de Somme.

Without GPS, you might be tempted to head for the village of Ault to find Le Cise, but this is not the case. The hotel is indeed in the village, but a little way from the center. On the other hand, don't forget to spend a little time visiting Ault, perched high on the chalk cliffs and nicknamed the balcony overlooking the sea. The program includes a trip to the beach, a visit to the lighthouse culminating at 108 meters above sea level, and the discovery of the "hâble", a unique site presented as a land of low fields isolated from the sea by a cordon of cliffs.s from the sea by a string of pebbles, a walk on the cliffs or along the coastal path, and a stroll through the streets of this fishing village to admire the facades of the Belle-Époque villas.

In the footsteps of Victor Hugo

In the meantime, head for Mers and Le Tréport and Le Bois de Cise, accessed via the route du Vieux-Chêne Cise, famousfamous for its string of houses built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, some on the roadside, others nestling in the woods. Once a seaside resort, it's now a chic, discreet vacation spot with direct access to the beach via a staircase. Le Cise finally appears at the end of this cul-de-sac road. Perched on the cliff, it overlooks the area where Victor Hugo came for a stroll in September 1837: " This place is beautiful. I couldn't tear myself away from it.

Scattered rooms

Le Cise is divided into several buildings close to one another. Villa Les Hirondelles, an imposing 1917 residence, is set back from the sea view. Villa Émilie plays the solo card, with two bedrooms, a private indoor pool, a garden and breathtaking sea views. On the opposite slope to Cise, Villa Lumen stands with its rooms facing the sea. The wooden Lodge, with its 3 double rooms, swimming spa and outdoor Jacuzzi, is open to all lodge guests. Finally, La Villa l'Atelier boasts two types of room: the Classiques (22 m²), each with a different ambience, and the Supérieures, which are spacious and offer panoramic views over the English Channel and the mouth of the Baie de Somme.

Except on days when the sea is rough and the wind is blowing in this valley, only silence can be heard here. A place to relax, far from the hustle and bustle, honking horns and noises of everyday life, Le Cise makes you want to sit on this cliffside and do nothing, or do it slowly, like escaping to the heights and following the wind.escape to the heights, following the Victor Hugo text panels and greeting the lucky few who live here year-round in their gardens. At the same pace, take the staircase down to the foreshore to admire Le Cise from below, lose your gaze in the horizon, touch the cliff, throw a pebble in the water, jump from rock to rock. Finally, always gently, grab a deckchair at the hotel reception desk, place it in the garden as if suspended over the water, pick up a book, fall asleep, listen to the sound of the sea and enjoy the view.listen to the sound of the surf, strain your ears to hear the foghorn of a boat returning to port, and watch the seagulls play with the wind.

The hotel's tranquility and location make you want to do nothing, which is undoubtedly the most pleasant and easiest thing to do. There's just one stressful moment to deal with: where to eat and have a drink? Cise has thought of everything, with a few tables on the cliffside terrace for a glass of wine or a kombucha. And when hunger strikes, an unpretentious catering service based on seaside classics, a few oysters, a duo of whelks and prawns, antipasti to share, a fish of the day and a slice of the local Neufchâtel, before an apple crumble.
