On January 11, 2025, the Concours International du Gamay celebrated the best wines made from the Gamay grape variety, including a French wine for under €10 that won the title of "Best Gamay in the World".

The Concours International du Gamay, conceived in 2010, aims to raise the profile of this emblematic grape variety, and showcase its diversity around the world. This year, 150 professional jurors and wine enthusiasts made an initial selection from 727 wines from four countries (France, Switzerland, Italy and Canada). A "grand jury" of experts then blind-tastes the pre-selected wines, to elect the "World's Best Gamay". On January 11, 2025, 228 medals were awarded. Relais du Colombier's Cuvée du Relais 2023 was among the 92 awarded gold medals, confirming the expertise of its winemakers.

Beaujolais Villages Cuvée du Relais 2023

Relais du Colombier's Beaujolais Villages Cuvée du Relais 2023 was chosen from over 700 wines to win the title of "World's Best Gamay" at the 15ᵉ edition of the International Gamay Competition, held at Lyon's Cité Internationale.

The Relais 2023 cuvée seduces with its greedy, fruity side, intense color and beautiful minerality. Its balance between freshness and structure convinced the juries, offering a wine that is both invigorating and accessible. The bottle is available from the cellar at €7.50.

A traditional harvest

In the heart of the Marchampt commune, Véronique and Laurent Ducrot, winegrowers for five generations and owners of the Relais du Colombier, harvest their grapes entirely by hand and vinify their wines in the traditional way on their bluestone granite terroirs. This international distinction is a source of immense pride for the couple, and helps to put the spotlight on their small village.
